COLD CALLING BUILDERS

ALTHOUGH THIS OCCURED IN EASEBOURNE THESE PERSONS TRAVEL AROUND LOOKING FOR VULNERABLE VICTIMS
On Wednesday 26th June 2012 in the Easebourne area near Midhurst a home owner was cold called by three males who offered to ‘fix’ his roof.
The home owner was talked into believing that he had loose ridge tiles and agreed a price of £25 to fix them.
An alert neighbour became very suspicious about these males and the way in which they were ‘fixing’ the ridge tiles and called the police.
Upon arrival police talked to the males, obtained their details and ran intelligence checks on them.
All three males were known to the police with two of them being on court bail for various offences.
One of these offences involved agreeing a price for building repairs and, after the job was finished, demanding with menace a much higher price.
The three males at Easebourne were informed that the agreed price would stand and that if there were any problems the police would reattend.
Once police had left the scene a further call was received from the concerned neighbour stating that the males had left without completing the repairs!
It is quite obvious to all that these males were going to be true to form, that is, finish the ‘repairs’ and then demand, possibly with menace, a much higher price from the elderly homeowner.
Please do not enter into any agreements with cold callers, say NO and inform Sussex Police and/or Trading Standards that they are in the area.
The Sussex Police non emergency number is 101.
In an emergency call 999
